UROC creates pathways for UC Merced undergraduates to develop as researchers
Vision
At UC Merced, undergraduates across all disciplines develop as researchers and contribute to the research ecosystem.
Mission
The Undergraduate Research Opportunities Center builds infrastructure and pathways that enable UC Merced undergraduates to enter research, develop their capabilities, and grow as researchers.
UROC supports mentored research, creative inquiry, and academic internships across all disciplines through advising, courses, workshops, events, and cohort-based programming. Together, these offerings create developmentally appropriate experiences that expand academic capital and strengthen research, communication, and professional skills.
UROC programming prepares students to approach their work with integrity, act with confidence, and grow as independent thinkers and self-starters.
UROC collaborates with faculty, campus units, regional programs, and professional networks to advance undergraduate research experiences that transform students and support faculty scholarship.
UROC Scholars: Expectations and Commitment
The UROC Scholar community supports motivated undergraduates who seek deep engagement in faculty-mentored research as a central part of their undergraduate experience.
UROC Scholars demonstrate strong academic commitment, take responsibility for their learning, and actively participate in research and professional development opportunities.
Scholars are expected to pursue academic excellence through consistent effort, intellectual curiosity, and engagement in enriching academic and professional experiences throughout their undergraduate careers.
