UROC MISSION
Faculty-mentored research is an integral component of undergraduate education and provides numerous benefits to students, regardless of their future career choices. Students develop skills in critical analysis, problem-solving, communication, and in understanding and applying research methods.
Engaging students, particularly first-generation and underrepresented groups, in undergraduate research both increase degree completion rates and graduate school pathways.
UROC undergraduate research scholars develop mentor connections with faculty, staff, and graduate students. Mentorship creates positive influences to promote their academic success and preparation for graduate school.
The Undergraduate Research Opportunities Center (UROC) was established at UC Merced in Spring 2014.
We aim to support 3 key areas:
- Be a resource center for students interested or involved in undergraduate research
- Provide support for faculty members interested or involved in undergraduate research mentoring
- Collect and report data related to undergraduate research participation
OUR COMMUNITY
The UROC Scholar community is for high-achieving, motivated students who want to prepare for and excel in graduate school. Scholars take their academic work seriously, work hard to maintain good grades, and are actively engaged in faculty-mentored research opportunities.
UROC Scholars are expected to represent the ideals of academic excellence by achieving to the best of their abilities and engaging in enriching academic and professional experiences throughout their undergraduate careers.
