We would like to take this opportunity to let you know that we have a new summer research opportunity sponsored by the ACCESS/Biosciences graduate program, which has recently been reorganized and expanded(https://www.uclaaccess.ucla.edu/pages/).
The summer program is called SPUR-LABS (Summer Program in Undergraduate Research for Life And Biomedical Sciences). This program will provide a rigorous research training experience that will prepare participants for entry into the top quality Ph.D. and M.D./Ph.D. programs in the life and biomedical sciences.
SPUR-LABS has either an eight week or 10 week option. Participants will receive travel support, housing, meals as well as a $3,500 stipend, all from non-Federal sources. Additionally, SPUR-LABS students will receive mandatory safety training classes on our campus, be invited to special symposia, and participate in all Summer Programs in Undergraduate Research (SPUR)-related activities. Importantly, SPUR-LABS students will also be part of a larger summer research community of MARC scholars and will be exposed to research from a variety of academic disciplines.
I have attached a flyer for the program. More details and application information is available at our website <https://www.uclaaccess.ucla.edu/pages/summer-program>
We would like to have your MARC and other honors research program students apply! We will select five outstanding students. The deadline for applications is March 3, 2014. As a special courtesy, we invite you to nominate one of your students that you believe is particularly competitive for our UCLA graduate programs. We will give your nomination special consideration for this program!
We believe SPUR-LABS will be a grand opportunity in which to encourage your MARC and other MARC-eligible students to consider research in the life and biomedical sciences at UCLA.
