The Undergraduate Research Opportunity Center (UROC) is offering an academic year funding opportunity, to support the continued research and development for Undergraduate Research in the Humanities (UROC-H) Scholars. The UROC-H Academic Year Research Award is aimed to support student-initiated/independent research, contributions to faculty-initiated research or creative projects/endeavors during the Fall 2025 and/or Spring 2026 terms in the Humanities based Research Projects.
Deadline to Submit a Proposal: Tuesday September 30th at 11:59pm
- ONE Semester Fall 2025 or Spring 2026
- BOTH Fall 2025 & Spring 2026 (stipends will be disbursed separately, each semester)
Eligibility:
- Be a UROC-H Scholar
- Have completed UROC's Summer Undergraduate Research Institute
- Be enrolled full-time at UC Merced
- Have a UC Merced faculty research mentor (who will also serve as the faculty sponsor) supporting the student's application
- Present the research project at:
- UC Merced's Research Week Showcase in Spring 2026
- OR
- A regional or national conference or discipline specific meeting
- UC Merced's Research Week Showcase in Spring 2026
- Research must NOT conflict with scholar's academic year studies (students may not receive both academic credit and funding for the same project)
Proposal Requirements:
- Submit a Completed Proposal by the Deadline
- Obtain Faculty Endorsement (a automated request will be emailed to FM as soon as you submit your proposal)
- Unofficial Transcripts
Award Recipient Expectations:
- Students receiving the $1,500 semester stipend are expected to dedicate approximately 8-10 hours per week to the research project.
- Awardees must attend monthly academic programming organized by the UROC office.
- Awardees MUST check-in with the UROC coordinator monthly
- Awardees MUST PRESENT their research at UC Merced's Research Week in Spring 2026 or a regional or national conferece/discipline specific meeting
- For Research Activities Involving Human Subjects, Applicants Must Seek IRB Approval From the Office of Research Compliance and Integrity
