Research in Microbiology at University of Iowa

The Department of Microbiology at The University of Iowa is pleased to announce a summer research opportunity for talented undergraduates interested in careers in the biological sciences.

Here is what we offer:

  • An intensive, mentored research experience doing cutting-edge science
  • A co-curriculum that includes research seminars, field trips and several interactive workshops — poster preparation, research ethics, graduate school and career opportunities
  • A $5,000 stipend
  • Housing, food allowance and travel paid by the program (not the stipend)
  • Social activities include a barbecue, excursions and an end-of-summer banquet
  • The program culminates with a campus-wide poster session with more than 150 participants

To be eligible for the program, students must be:

  • Enrolled at a college or university and majoring in a biological science
  • In their sophomore or junior year at the time of application
  • Interested in graduate school and a career in biological research
  • A U.S. citizen or permanent resident (hold a green card)

Prior research experience is not a requirement.

Students from underrepresented groups or colleges that do not have extensive research programs are especially encouraged to apply

The 10-week 2014 program begins May 27 and ends Aug. 1.
