Flash Talks 2015 Speaker applications have officially opened and will be due March 9th. Flash Talks is an exciting speaker series where students can give a 20 slide PowerPoint presentation to an audience of students, faculty, prominent company executives, and connected community members. Each slide will automatically change every 20 seconds. Meaning, in just over six minutes, you are presenting a full hour PowerPoint Presentation!
Many past participants of Flash Talks have successfully gained internships and full-time careers. This is a networking experience that can be placed on your résumé to help advance your end goals!
In addition, there are several Judges Choice and People’s Choice prizes available to winning individuals or teams.
This year, the event will be split up into 2 different live tracks with an optional non-live video track. To qualify to speak at the live events you will need to satisfy one of the following:
Track A, April 29: New Idea - The first track will be open to individuals with a new idea or experience (no prototype necessary). Students in the first track can explore a new concept, experience, idea, experiment, invention, or strategic plan. The first track serves as an open forum for students to test new ideas or explain a new experience.
Track B, April 30: Community Impact and Development: The second track focuses on changes needed within the Merced and San Joaquin Valley Communities. This is a forum for students to pitch an idea that has been successful in places outside of the Merced region, but could improve life in our region in some meaningful way. Topics could range from infrastructure projects, new entertainment, social/civic concerns, environmental challenges, economic development, or other ideas. Presenters will be asking themselves how they could impact the region.
(Non-Live) Track C: For those individuals not chosen for the live event a Video Submission contest will be available.
To apply to be a speaker at this prestigious event, please send a 1 paragraph outline of your presentation idea as well as your general goal for the presentation to Robert Goodman at rgoodman@ucmerced.edu before the March 9thdeadline. Spots typically fill fast, and early submissions are considered and suggested. See Enclosed for further information.
